Meet Antonio
Antonio is a lifelong San Ysidro resident. Growing up in a working class, immigrant community, Antonio learned the values of hard work and education. Antonio attended local public schools and earned a scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with honors with a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.
Antonio served as a Director for the Imperial Beach Community Clinic for over 10 years, connecting families to affordable, quality healthcare. Currently, Antonio represents South Bay communities as a Congressional Representative for the Office of Congressman Juan Vargas.
Antonio remains active in his community and has served as a member of the San Ysidro Planning Group and the San Ysidro Recreation Council. He volunteers regularly in the community with social service provider, Hearts and Hands Working Together.
A Strong History
One of South Bay San Diego’s rising young leaders, Antonio first won a seat on the San Ysidro School Board at age 27.
On the San Ysidro School Board, Antonio Martinez is dedicated to ensuring South Bay kids have the same opportunities to succeed as all other children in San Diego.
Antonio’s accomplishments include strengthening support services for at-risk kids, expanding after-school programs, rebuilding school district finances and restoring public trust in the school district.
Antonio Martinez has earned a reputation as a relentless fighter for parents, teachers and the community. On the School Board, Antonio successfully led the charge to recoup millions in taxpayer dollars by cleaning up corruption and mismanagement by past administrations.

Results & Accomplishments
Fighting for Families
In 2014, Antonio was the only School Board Member to oppose harmful budget cuts, standing with teachers and parents during the San Ysidro Teachers Strike.
Antonio championed the passage of The Lead-Safe Schools Protection Act in 2017, ensuring public schools in California are tested for harmful lead contaminants.
Effecting Change
Antonio has helped hundreds of families in our community through his work with Congressman Vargas. This includes Health Care, Social Security, Public Safety, and Housing,
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Antonio helped students get access to the internet by helping secure hotspots for families in need.
Antonio also helped organize educational forums for students, parents, and community members.
Improving Quality of Life
Congressman Vargas relied on Antonio’s work with the IRS to help families receive their stimulus checks.
In 2020, Antonio helped pass two bond measures (T and U).
These funds have been used to renovate playgrounds in Smythe and La Mirada Elementary Schools and will be used to modernize San Ysidro Middle School and build a new community center at the Beyer School Site.
